Dark Angels Ravenwing Outriders - Part 2

Greetings.  Two bikes have been highlighted so far, so I figured I'd put up a short post with some closeups of the work.  I like how these are coming out.  The highlighting takes me forever though.  Basically one bike a session so far...so like 2 hours a piece. Ugh. To be fair, I'm binge watching Netflix and taking frequent breaks to watch as I go.

Definitely looking like members of the Ravenwing.  I'll get decals on once I complete the highlighting.

As promised, the Sergeant's gun barrel has been restored to its former glory. We get a look at the beady head lights too here. I guess the Primaris use the new LED lamps now...no need for the incandescent lamps with the clunk frill covers for these elite warriors.

The Ravenwing banners look like part of the kit. I'm loving that.  I was pleased I had hung on to these extras in the bits box. The symbols look right at home on the front armor too.

I guess if you've seen one, you've seen them all,  You won't hurt my feelings if you scroll away now. :)

Not sure I'd want to be standing in this fella's way...

So there we have two of the three bikes looking pretty good.  I'll have the third bike done and the decals on this week around the US holiday I think. Then the bases need some paint.  If I can get these boys done this month, I'll have all December to complete the remaining seven models form the Indomitus set.  If I include Lazarus it'll be eight, but he's outside the goal of this challenge so I can't let him slow me down.  He just happens to be primed and ready to go.

For those celebrating here in the US, Happy Thanksgiving!  This year has totally sucked, but we can be grateful for those still with us and whatever we can make of next year. Listen to your Commissar, every day above ground is a good day.

Stay safe.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

Dark Angels Ravenwing Outriders - Part 1

Greetings.  I made some progress on the Ravenwing Outriders.  Hopefully the codex won't disappoint me by preventing the Second Company form taking Outriders.  I spaced on build pictures, but the conversion here is trivial, and really not much of a conversion at all.  I simply added some extra Ravenwing bling from the bits box to the existing Outriders: classic fender banners and the Ravenwing company symbol.

Then I primed everything using the air brush and some Vallejo Surface Primer Black.  Vallejo Dark Rubber was then painted on the tires and shaded with Nuln Oil.  I think a second or third coat is likely in the future.  Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White was painted on the Banners and Ravenwing symbols, then shaded with Nuln Oil as well.

Next I painted all the metal bits with Pro Acryl Dark Silver, and the chest eagles with Pro Acryl Bright Ivory. More Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White was painted on the Indomitus forearm campaign badge.

After some clean up, everything was shaded with more GW Nuln Oil, except the chest eagles, which were shaded with GW Agrax Earthshade. Next I got on painting the red weapon housing on the bikes and blades. Then the chrome exhausts were painted.

Next came the helmet eye lenses, belts pouches, and the Sergeant's head. Can't make out much except the head from the pic here though. I need to stop taking my pics at the end of a session when I'm headed to bed...

The purity seals came next.  Somewhere in there everything was shaded.  And then I worked in some edge highlights on the weapons before calling it for the night.

Lots of good progress so far.  I made a mess of the Sergeant's pistol while drilling out the barrel.  So it's a green stuff mess at the moment (as seen in the title pic above).  No worries though.  The repair is good and I doubt there will be any sign of the issue when I post next.

I've enjoyed painting these bikes quite a bit which surprises me.  Coming in, they were the models I was least looking forward to. I guess I've painted enough black marines and dreadnought armor that it's just what I do now. 😂

Probably only one post next week with the US Thanksgiving holiday, but we'll see. It is going to be a small intimate affair this year with just my wife and kids and no extended family.  We'll see about pulling in a zoom call or two.  What times are these, eh?

Stay safe out there.

Cheers and Happy gaming!

Dark Angels Eradicators - TO DONE

 Dark Angels Eradicators

The Eradicators are complete and it's time to give them a big stamp of DONE for this hobby season.

I had fun painting these.  And it is great to have the green tide done for the Indomitus set.  I have three Primaris units painted for the Dark Angels now, including the Hellblasters I painted for Squaduary 2018 (?!).  Yeah...it's taken me a long time to get any real progress on the 40K Dark Angels.

Now I'm on to the Ravenwing Outriders, so check back in a couple days to see how they are coming along.

Stay safe out there.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

Here are a few close ups of the individual models.

Dark Angels Eradicators - Part 2

Dark Angels Indomitus Eradicators WIP

Greetings.  The Eradicators are painfully close to done...but not quite there yet.  Since the last post. I completed all the highlights and painted the bases. So many hard lines to edge highlight.  It's a bit over the top and cartoony, but it's a style, I guess. I convince myself that it looks better than simple dry brushing...but I dunno...

I put some detail work into the Sergeant's head too. Not a bad eye this time, but in super close up, it's painted a bit down onto his cheek. That will need to get cleaned up...and maybe repainted...we'll see.

With these melta weapons, some heat staining and a bit of soot was definitely needed.

Then I was ready to apply the decals. I also painted the company symbol freehand on the left knees at this point. Boy, I wish I was better at that...but it's coming out ok even if it takes me a lot of work to get there.

Oh, and I almost forgot to highlight the leather work, mostly around back.

I added an Aquila transfer as a tattoo to the sergeant's forehead and a white rank skull on his right kneecap.

I'll take one more pass at cleanup, looking for mistakes and anything else I might have missed.  Some of the armor highlights are still a bit smudgy, for instance (see the left pauldron in the pic above). But these boys are otherwise ready for a coat of lacquer and a good battle.

I'll likely move on to the bikes next...then reward myself with the characters and other veterans.  At least the green marines are soon to be done from the Indomitus set.

Until next time, stay safe.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

Dark Angels Eradicators - Part 1

Dark Angels Eradicators WIP

Greetings.  Continuing with my goal to paint all of the Indomitus boxed set marines by the end of 2020, I launched straight into the Eradicators after finishing off the Assault Intercessors.  I was in a green groove, so it just made sense to soldier on with these, the last squad of purely green marines in the boxed set.

Dark Angels Eradicators WIP

I started by painting the chest eagles and weapons while things were not glued.  These push fit kits are really great for that since you can have have models assembled, but not glued, quite easily. The parts fits so snug, there is little worry about things falling off and getting lost.

As a side note, I'm going to be updating my paint recipes to account for Pro Acryl paints from Monument Hobbies as an alternative to many of the colors I commonly use. I've been trying some out and they are really fantastic.  Not only are many of the colors a great match, but the paints themselves go on so smoothly and with great coverage. All of the metals above are Pro Acryl colors, for example, as are the red, black, white, and ivory colors. Since everything is shaded, it's hard to tell the correct base color, but you can see these still match well after shading with Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade.

Dark Angels Eradicators WIP

I've blocked in and shaded most of the base colors now.  I have some minor details yet to do, then it'll be on to the highlights.  Should be a quick squad to completed with only three models. And I need all the speed I can get to complete this set bed the end of the year.  I expect I'll get bogged down with the Veterans and characters...so...much...detail...

Hope every one is doing well and staying safe.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

Dark Angels Assault Intercessors - TO DONE

Dark Angels Assault Intercessors

Coming off DreadTober 2020, I hoped back onto the Assault Intercessor project to complete the boys I had been painting back in September.  The Indomitus models are great fun to paint and I'm excited to get them done.

Dark Angels Assault Intercessor SergeantDark Angels Assault Intercessor Sergeant

The Intercessor Sergeant got some transfer upgrades for his tilting shield. A red skull for rank and the Indomitus campaign badge.  This kept the shield from just being another copy of the knee pad insignia for the company.

I didn't want to put up pics of all ten models since there a re duplicate poses.  So here are a few shots of the various individual poses instead.

Now it's time to move on to the Primaris Eradicators.  Then I'll be done with Indomitus green marines and It'll be on to the Outriders, I think.  But I'm getting ahead of myself, as usual.  For now I'll simply enjoy this big old seal of DONE for this project.

Stay safe out there.
