DreadTober 2026 - Week 3

Legio Custodes Contemptor-Galatus Dreadnought WIP

Hello and welcome to my DreadTober week 3 update. The project is moving along smartly. I'm working on details and then highlighting and weathering at this point.  IN order to have things tie together and to be more stable, I completed the base enough to glue the model down.

I settled on a straight forward World Eaters scheme for the armor bits. I don't typically include Chaos models in my collection, so I had to source a legion symbol for the shoulder pad.

All of my Dark Angels bases (30K and 40K) use the same brown base coat, Agrax Earthshade wash, light brown highlights. Simple. Neutral. Effective. At this level of detail I fixed the model to the base with 5-minute epoxy.

The chassis and armor has been fully painted and shaded at this point. Some odd highlights exist here and there circumstantially while I had the right paint on the brush. I like the contrast of the Gold with the Dark silver a lot.

I received the decal sheet I needed just in time to get the World Eaters legion icon on the shield. I "weathered" the rent shoulder pad to appear scorched and scuffed by the rough treatment of the dreadnought's power sword. That was the last thing worked on this week as well. An artsy power blade caricature carried over from earlier GW painting guides, back when Duncan was the face online for GW. It not only carries an other-worldly quality, but also stands out on the table as something special and not just a standard sword blade.  Regardless, it matches the force to date (and my painting recipe above) so there we are.

That's the project so far with a week to go.  The end is in sight.  I went with a simple Custodes icon for the shield, and then matched it on the left shoulder pad for consistency; representing this honored hero's heraldry.

Best of luck to the other DreadTober painters.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!
