DreadTober 2026 - Week 2

Legio Custodes Contemptor-Galatus WIP
Welcome to week two of DreadTober 2026. I was able to make more progress than expected this week.  I realized that the shading was not going to go as planned if I didn't lay down the details first.  So I set about all the embossed details and metalwork that needed to be shaded together.

It all started with the metal exoskeleton under the armor. followed by some detailing of the head while I took a breather from all of that gunmetal.

The shield got tidied up a bit too, along with some dry brushed highlights.

Then I needed to work on the other raised details on the armor and tidy up the shoulders.

and from the rear...

In the rear pic above, you can see the gold has warmed and darkened, a result of the shading with GW Reikland Fleshshade. The dark metals and white gold wings were shaded with GW Nuln Oil.  Both shades were applied straight from the pot and manipulated a bit with a damp brush.

And from the front again after shading.  The head has been glued in, and I started some detail work on the sword hilt w/flamers. I haven't decided if I will paint all of the embossed details - or leave some gold. Also still thinking on the braid and brooch tacked on the right of the chest plate. Taken in all though, the Dread is a lot further along than I anticipated at this stage.

Things are far enough along that I'm starting on the base so I can glue the model down. I'm blanking on the damaged armor on the base - still thinking Thousand Sons...but...maybe Deathguard?  I like the blue and white...

Anyway, that's where I'm at as week two draws to a close.  I'm feeling pretty good about my chances of completion within the month. Best wishes to my fellow painters.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!
