Adeptus Titanicus Reaver Battle Titans - TO DONE

 

I took it right up to the line, but the Reaver battle titans got completed by the end of the Hobby Season 2022/23.  I'm excited with the outcome.  Both titans came out well on their own while continuing to fit in seamlessly with the rest of the battle group.  Having the painting recipes really helps.  I'm spending years in most cases building out these collections and it would be easy to forget the correct colors, shades, processes, and what-not.  Seriously - write down your paint recipes!

These engines put a fine cap on the season for me.  Such fun to paint and I get great pleasure from seeing them completed and mixed in with the rest of their brethren.  I'll see about posting up some updated family pictures at some point.  But I think I'll wait until the last two major titans are complete - a Legio Ignatum Warlord, and a Legio Tempestus Warmaster Iconoclast.

Stay tuned for the launch of the 2023/24 season where I will reveal more promised projects and hobby optimism. Oh...and is that DreadTober around the corner? Hmmm....

Adeptus Titanicus Reaver Titans WIP - Part 3

 

A short update on the Titans today.  Weapon painting is underway.  All of the weapons have been base coated and shaded.  Some highlighting will follow. I did actually make a highlight pass on the gold trim of the Legio Ignatum Reaver titan. Some silver highlights will follow to brighten it up a bit more on the sharpest bits.

Now with white rockets!  Progress is slow but continuous...painting in all the bronze bits of the weapons took some time.

And on to the Legio Tempestus Reaver...

So overall, these two are coming out well.  I'm having some motivation problems getting all the details done. BUT THEY WILL GET DONE! :)  Never back down, never give up. Just keep on keepin' on.

I think I'll do the bases over the weekend and get the beasts glued down finally.  That usually kick starts me into wanting to complete the projects.  These big boys always look more fun when they have something to properly stomp on!

Adeptus Titanicus Reaver Titans WIP - Part 2

 

Hello and welcome back.  I'm having serious difficulties staying on a blog posting schedule this summer!  Regardless, progress is being made on my Titanicus Reaver Titan project. The Tempestus titan has all the trim done and has been finally assembled.  In addition, all the transfers have been applied to both titans.

Honorem Veritatis stands proud with full Legio heraldry. Her titan class (Reaver Battle Titan) is called out on the left knee, while the Collegia Titanica is honored on the right.  Legio Ignatum icons adorn the inside of her right shin, the upper carapace and both shoulders.

Black skulls on the weapons signify engine kills of note. 

Pugno Martis bears the heraldry of Legio Tempestus which was once a member of the Triad Ferrum Morgulus on Mars.  The titans of my collection bear their iconography as it might have looked prior to the Horus Heresy.  During the Heresy, the bulk of the Legio off-world among the crusade fleets turned traitor and sided with Horus. Since the Adeptus Titanicus game takes place during the Heresy, my Tempestus Legio plays the part of traitor during games even if they bear loyalist heraldry. One might imagine battles taking place early in the Heresy before these proud titans debased themselves with the heraldry of the arch traitor Horus Lupercal

The checkers on the shins have been made using a custom template which I cut from tracing paper and use to then draw and cut out appropriate shapes from a sheet of decal paper printed in all checkers - another custom print job using Testors decal paper and an HP inkjet printer.  Despite using Testors decal fixer to seal the ink, I still end up with the ink coming off a bit during application, but it mostly works.  I'll clean some of the damage up with a fine detail brush, but may leave some as authentic damage.  Even with the hassles of the whole process, it's totally better than what I'd accomplish with a brush alone, esp. due to the curved surfaces and small areas.

So there I have two game ready titans - mostly.  They aren't secured to their bases yet.  I'm detailing the weapons currently; then I'll move on to highlights, etc.  At some point I'll then jump to the bases and complete those so the titans can ultimately be secured to them. August is passing quickly and I've had plenty of distractions; but I continue to push for completing these two by the end of the month.  Then it'll be time for a short filler project before I jump into DreadTober 2023!

Adeptus Titanicus Reaver Titans WIP - Part 1

 

Greetings and welcome back!  I have been making good progress on my reaver titans for Legio Ignatum and Legio Tempestus.  I have not made such good progress on making time to post, however.  But it's summer with a lot of work family logistics going on, so it is what it is. It's been a while since I've posted about painting the Forge World Legio Tempestus camouflage, so there is a bit of a refresher here on that.  Legio Ignatum is much more straight forward with only simple masking for the hazard stripes.  I guess I'll start there.

 

This titan is the furthest along.  It's fully assembled and I've started on some of the details, such as the lenses in the head. I went subtle on the hazards here since the rest of the Legion in my collection have more. This adds variety for having a minimal amount.  I did something similar with one of the four Warhound titans in the collection.  One of the fun parts of painting duplicate models is trying out different schemes...you don't have to just settle for one! Also the lore lends itself to variety and individuality in the heraldry among the titans of a Legio.

 So that's where the Ignatum Reaver titan stands. Armor colors were airbrushed on over a black primer coat.  The all details are brush painted. Some shading of the armor panels has been done as well. There will be another shade pass over the trim. 

Next, I am showing the armor progression from initial base coat to final trim on the Tempestus armor panels. There are three coats of paint and two passes with masking tape to make the shapes.  The lightest color goes on first, then the mid-color, and finally the darkest color last.  When all the masking tape is removed, the appearance is one of the lighter color shapes over a darker base.

You can see where I masked off things i wanted to be black or white later.  I messed up with the wight panels.  I should have masked the black stripes before painting the white.  Instead I masked AFTER painting the white to ad the black on top.  Silly and inefficient since the base coat was black already.

Here is how the rest of the titan is coming along.  I've also finished the trim on the Tempestus reaver.

Next, I'll be dry brushing the body and cleaning up in preparation for gluing on the armor panel and head.

And that's my tiny titan project so far.  Coming along well and I am enjoying having both titans on the desk for variety.  It makes both take longer to paint, but I have no deadline. I'm just puttering along with the hobby and enjoying the projects as I continue to build out my painted Warhammer collection. At least I have managed a few games with the Titans! It's super fun having these fellas painted up and stomping about.

Next week these two will be close to done, if not completed.  The fussy bits are behind me so progress can pick up.  There is a ton of detail on these models and they are always a joy to assemble and paint.

On The Workbench [July] - Reaver Titans for Adeptus Titanicus

 

Greetings.  On the workbench today, we have two new Reaver Battle Titans for Adeptus Titanicus. The one of the left will reinforce Legio Ignatum, while the one on the right will reinforce Legio Tempestus.  They are currently not named, but the rights of naming will begin soon.

My current Legio Ignatum force consists of one close combat Reaver, and one fire support Reaver.  So this new addition will provide additional fire support. The new Reaver brings me to one Warmaster (not built), 1 Warlord, 1 Warbringer, 3 Reavers, 4 Warhounds, and a Warlord-Sinister ally.  Decent enough options for fielding various maniples, especially if I sub the Warlord-Sinister in as a normal Warlord from time to time. 

My Legio Tempestus force is in the opposite situation, with two fire support Reavers. So this addition will be used for close combat, and will bring the force to 2 Warlords, 1 Warbringer, 3 Reavers, and 4 Warhounds. Also a decent enough mix.  If I build two War Masters, then Tempestus will get one.  But Legio Ignatum is what I see as my main personal force to play with.  I'm maintaining Legio Tempestus engines as a second force so I can invite friends to game with me. So they don't get all the cool toys, unless I need it for balance. And my point here isn't to play mirror matches, either, despite having a pretty equal number of engines in each Legio.  I just want to be flexible enough to try various maniples out with either force.

The real issues is how far I'm starting to slip behind in my engine painting.  I have 1 Warlord, 1 Warbringer, 2 Reavers, and 2 Warhounds assembled but not painted at this point...and the Warmaster waiting in the box still. Further, the Warlord, Warbringer, and one Reaver are for Tempestus, which is a time consuming painting project with the many stages required to do the camouflage. 

Expect to see many more Adeptus Titanicus project posts here as I work through this backlog.  I don't intend to add any new titans beyond this - but then I don't know what will be released for the game either.  If we get new titan classes, then I'll be adding them, no doubt about that. Oh, and there are the weapon options which I hadn't mentioned yet.  I have amassed a large collection of weapon options which are also largely unpainted.  So that's something else that needs to get done! :)  And the terrain, can't forget that...

Anyway.  I love me some Adeptus Titanicus, so there's no worries there.  I have a lot of great hobby projects to look forward to.  I haven't decided yet which game system or force I want to tackle next. It just might be you'll see one of the unpainted engines up here soon.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus - TO DONE

Greetings!  Today, I'm sharing a second completed Reaver Battle Titan for my Legio Ignatum force, Verum Imperatoria.  Painting the Warlord-Sinister for #MonsterMarch5 got me really inspired to get my Legio Ignatum titans finished up.  Here's a big ol' seal of DONE for the Reaver.

 

Now I'm on to the Warhounds I built last year, which have also been waiting in the queue. You have to "strike while the iron is hot", as they say. And so I am. So far, I have the armor base coats applied so I can see how the heraldry will lay out on each.

So it's going to be about more tiny titans for a week or two more here. I have a pre-order for the new Warmastercoming at some point too.  I can't decide which Legio to send it too, though.  And I also have two more Warhounds to build for Legio Ignatum, and a second Warlord for Legio Tempestus.  So lots more titan fun in the future.  I expect I'll take a break once I finish these two Warhounds, to avoid burnout, and switch back to 28mm projects.

 

I'll close with this collection of loyal Titans I have completed so far, then scroll on down below to see more studio closeups of the recently completed Reaver. I have to say, projects like this are daunting and hard to make progress on at first.  Yet, there is a tipping point at which it seems to get much easier to just "knock off a few more".  Having 12 completed titans has really done that for me.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP - Part 2

 

Greetings!  Towards the end of January 2021, I began painting a second Reaver Battle Titan for my Adeptus Titanicus Legio Ignatum force.  I had to put the project on the shelf to make way for my Squaduary 2021 and #MonsterMarch5 work.  But the Psi-Titan for #MonsterMarch5 inspired me to keep painting mini-titans, so I took the Reaver project off the shelf and got back to work on it.

I left the project at a point where the armor was ready to be attached, so that's where I started.  After a little 5-minute two-part epoxy, and some patience, here's how it looked.  I left the head off to make painting around it more convenient. Once the glue dried, it was time to finish the paint work. The little places where the pieces were clipped from the sprue got touched up first.

The head was finished (eye lenses and what not), and then attached.  The weapons were detailed and the armor plates cleaned up of any mistakes.  The missiles were painted too.

Details like the void generator were painted, along with parts of the Titan's skeleton (like the backs of the legs, and various piston shafts). Then the armor trim and other various bits were shaded and cleaned up.  The base got painted next and the titan was finally glued down - it's just resting on its base in the pictures above.

Once glued down, the weathering powders were applied and left to dry thoroughly.  Also, the armor trim and a few other bits were highlighted.  All of the painting details can be found above under the painting recipe tab for Legio Ignatum. Some heat staining on the weapon arms was attempted and the transfers were applied.  I think I went too light on the weapons, so another pass will likely happen prior to wrapping things up.

Applying transfers to titans is always fun.  I get into picking through my collection of transfer sheets looking for a good mix of heraldry for these god engines.  I take into account how they would be viewed form different angles, but particularly from the ground since they tower over most non-titan viewers.

The cogs on the backs of the weapon arms were re-painted gold for more pop.  I realized I had used bronze by mistake after comparing this titan to the first Legio Ignatum Reaver I completed.  This is the point I make such comparisons to insure I am being consistent among members of the same Legio. 

Here, again, the heat staining is really too faint to be seen in the photos.  While I favor a subtle hand here, this is perhaps way TOO subtle.  I'll fix that up next session when I look over the model once more for things that got missed or still need cleaning up.

She's otherwise very close to complete.  One more session and I'll seal the model and call it done.  I'm so glad I got this one under way prior to the annual challenges so I could knock it off so quickly now.  What I'm sharing here is the result of only three (relatively) short evening painting sessions since completing the Warlord-Sinister.

What are you all working on now? I'm not sure what I will move on to.  I'm looking forward to painting Heavy Intercessors, but I also have Blackstone Fortress heroes and more First Legion models in the queue...and maybe some Aeronautica Imperialis at last?  And more tiny titans!!
