Dark Angels Aggressor Squad WIP

Dark Angels Aggressor Squad WIP
Greetings and welcome back. Hot on the heels of the Intercessor project, I took on this squad of Aggressors. Lots of details on these fellas, but perhaps not so much as a blinged out character might have. They are pretty far along in terms of base colors and simple shading.

Dark Angels Aggressor Squad WIP

So not much to see at this point.  This squad will come from the 9th support company so that they can reasonably be accompanied by this cool Master.  I already have Lazarus as the master of the 5th company so no need for another master there.

Dark Angels Captain/Master WIP

It's sorta foolish to put time in on this model, but I just really like it...a lot..  So; now I'll have some 9th Company support models for fun in the force.  And, if I don't want to use Lazarus, this gentleman can be given the command. At least with Leviathan it seems we can field whatever we want for the points, so there's no struggle with limited HQ slots, etc.

Dark Angels Captain/Master WIP

So that's that. less progress on the master as was focused more on batch painting the Aggressors.  I have some family time coming up and painting will take a back seat for a bit.  But if the time between posts stretches out, no worries.  Posting will pick up again soon.  I've got a bunch of the Leviathan Space Marine models coming in from eBay this week.  So, I'll likely ride the inspiration wave and carry right on through the summer filling out this 40K Dark Angels force.

Hope all is well where you are with the hobby and in general.

Dark Angels Primaris Intercessor Squad - TO DONE

Dark Angels Intercessors

Greetings and welcome back. As foretold, I have a completed demi-squad of Dark Angels Intercessors to share today.  I was able to close out the project over the weekend while enjoying some extra personal time on Father's Day.

Dark Angels Intercessors

I don't look forward to painting Intercessors for some reason; but I always enjoy painting Intercessors. 😂 yeah, I don't get it either.  Lots of detail on the models, not so fussy to pick out everything as it can be on the characters.  Strong poses, sharp edges on the details.  Nothing really not to like.  But for some reason it's like pulling teeth to sit down and paint a squad.  Well, I now have ten painted up including this lot to finally complete 1st squad for my 5th company Dark Angels collection. I'll enjoy the Big ol' Stamp of DONE and move on.

I primed and began painting a squad of three Dark Angels Aggressors and a Captain/Master in Gravis armor to join them.  I'm entertaining the idea of painting them as members of the 9th support company.  Otherwise, I don't have a reason for a 5th company Captain/Master since that would be Lazarus. Since I'm not actively playing games, I don't have to burden myself with building/painting what plays well on the table. :)  So it's more a fluff scenario here. Anyway - lots of paint to lay down before I need to be concerned with company markings.

So that's it for today.  Lots of close up picks of the marines below after the break if you are looking for inspiration.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

Dark Angels Primaris Intercessor Squad WIP

Dark Angels Primaris Intercessors WIP

Short post today to share a new project following close on the heels of the Dark Angels characters.  I have five Intercessors already painted, but that's it; well other than a squad of ten assault Intercessors.  So I was well over due to add some more painted troops to my growing force of painted Primaris Dark Angels. Given I was in a groove painting Dark Angels, it seemed like a 'strike while the iron is hot' sort of moment.

After only two sessions these fellas are already well on their way.  Less detail (when compared to the characters) helps progress move forward rapidly!  All of the base colors are laid down and I'm on to highlights, transfers, company markings and then painting the bases.  Maybe a TO DONE post next, we'll see. Soon I'll have 10 painted Intercessors.  Hooray!  😂

Dark Angels 40K Character WIP - TO DONE

Warhammer 40K Dark Angels Characters
Well, after a couple months of puttering along, the six Dark Angels characters are finally complete! I took my time with these and set no specific deadlines.  I'm happy with the results and its now time for a big ol' stamp of DONE to celebrate.

Chapter Master Azrael was the last of the six characters to be completed. I have the original in metal, but never painted him up before this.  These new plastics are a dream to paint, and while a Primaris character now, he's at least scaled appropriately now within the current range.

While I enjoyed painting Azrael, it's Master Lazarus of the 5th Company who really inspired me out of these six characters.

The Primaris Techmarine was a nice diversion from painting forest green.

Lots of cool, crisp detail on this model; it was a treat to paint!

Next up is the 5th Company banner bearer, a Primaris Ancient. More cool details and a mix of transfers, raised detail, and ink pens really brought out the banner. I slapped the Lion's name on it in honor of his 40k model release which coincidentally coincided with this project.

And last, but not least there were the two Primaris Lieutenants to complete the six model project. The first lieutenant will support squads with ranged weapons.

The second lieutenant will lead the charge with the assault intercessors. I imagine these two will be a bit out classed with only a power sword.  But we'll see how Tenth edition 40K mixes things up. Well, and in tenth edition they'll join squads rather than simply following them with auras, so that's certainly one change.

And that's what I have to show for a couple months of painting since I completed #MonsterMarch7.  I'm currently looking at a five marine squad of intercessors on the painting table, as I only have one squad of five painted so far (not counting a ten marine squad of assault intercessors). I need to continue riding the wave of excitement following the launch of Leviathan.  I'm finally getting a tidy little force of fully painted Dark Angels together!

Best wishes for your own projects.

On the Workbench [June] - HH Dark Angels Legion Despoiler Squad

Age of Darkness Horus Heresy Dark Angels Despoiler Squad WIP

I have a short post today to share a Dark Angels Despoiler squad I built for the Horus Heresy Age of Darkness (30k) game. This squad has been put together using three sprue of Mark VI space marines from the Age of Darkness boxed set (including bits form the accessory sprue), A couple sets of Dark Angels Mark VI shoulder pads and heads, and two sets of the new Mark VI Despoiler arms recently released.  The two sets of arms allowed me to assemble 12 marines with the 13th (a sergeant) built using parts from the agent of darkness set.

I'm designing the squad to be a legal 15 marine squad, but with the intent of fielding it as a 10 marine squad so it can catch a ride in a rhino and zoom to where these fellas need to get work done. The extra five marines are then to be used as options to kit out the 10 marine squad to fit a given battle. So, I will add two more marines at some point soon, probably another plasma pistol/chain-sword, maybe two (for the 15 marine squad). Or, maybe another power axe, or 2-handed chain-sword.  So many choices!

In the squad above, we have a sergeant with power fist and plasma pistol, two marines with power axe and bolt pistol, one marine with chain-sword and plasma pistol, two marines with 2-handed chain-swords and seven marines with chain sword and bolt pistol. I threw a vexilla on one of the chain-sword/bolt pistol marines to help with combat resolution since this is definitely a squad that gets into hand-to-hand action.

I can't imagine when I'll get paint on these marines, but I really like how the squad came out.  It was a perfect use for some of the 'extra' marines I got in the Age of Darkness box.  I say extra because I already had quite a large number of MkIII and MkIV marines/squads from prior releases and Forge World sets.

As a sort of quick review, the arms come with pegs that match well to the small holes or sockets in the shoulder joints of the plastic MkVI marines. This really helped with easy alignment/positioning and good glue joints.  For customization, it is an easy matter to remove the pegs so the arms can be in whatever position suits the imagination. As it was, the arms were a pleasure to work with and match well with the plastic, as expected.

That's it for now.  Azrael is basically done, so expect I'll post up some TO DONE pics next.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

Dark Angels Azrael WIP - part 3

Dark Angels Chapter Master Azrael WIP
Azrael is coming together!  This week, the chapter master of the Dark Angels is glued to his base at last.  His head is not glued down yet, as I'm still working on the back banner. But here we get a glimpse into the future to see what he'll look like when done. Lots of additional details and highlights went on this week.

The base colors are down on the banner and I'm looking to clean things up and apply highlights and a few missing details.Back banners make me so nostalgic.  Any one from the early editions gets this - though you either loved them or hated them, I suppose.

Plasma glow completed on the combi weapons along with some power sword effects.

Here's a better look at the sword.  The skulls on the backpack got painted too. And I completed a pass of armor highlights.

I'm definitely moving into the end game here. Lots of bets a bobs to complete but its all stuff that should go quickly.  Not bad progress this week given I was away for the long weekend here in the US and didn't get all that much painting time in since the last post.

Maybe a TO DONE post next week??
