Welcome back to my work on the planes from Aeronautica Imperialis: Wings of Vengeance...now with MORE ORKS. With the imperial planes complete, I got started putting paint on the ork planes over the US holiday break. There was lots of family stuff going on so I didn't get a ton done, but they advanced happily none-the-less.
I started by adding some yellow panels to the red base coat. Next, I painted the wing flaps white in preparation for some freehand checkerboard for Waaagh! squadron markings. While the white was out, I also painted the teeth and a few other sharp bits for visual interest.
Then I marked out each flight's squadron leaders with some freehand flames.
I like the look a lot and almost put flames on everyone.
In the end, sanity held on and I saved my energy for painting in a black checkerboard pattern on all of the white flaps.
With the free hand complete, I laid down a coat of GW Agrax Earthshade over all and let that dry. When I pick these little fellas up again this week, it will be time to paint in all the metal details and hopefully the cockpit glass. I'm planning to paint the cockpits in the same color as the imperial plans so they appear to be flying in the same sky when sharing a game board.
Until next time, stay safe out there.
Cheers and Happy Gaming!
These are looking great!

DeleteNice work. I really struggle to get any momentum painting anything Ork...the models are very cool, and it is a great game! Ork stuff is just a real challenge.
ReplyDeleteI hear you. I painted Orks back in 2nd ed for 40K. Since then I've been all Imperium all the time. As I've gained much more painting experience, I will say that I have found it positive to push myself out of that comfort zone and try something very different. Still, these little planes will likely be the only Xenos painted at 262Krieg. Eldar planes should be interesting...
DeleteOh, and you may not that these planes are pretty close to the GW box art - or at least following that aesthetic very closely. That's me not being very inspired by Ork color schemes. :)
