DreadTober Week 1 Progress

DreadTober Horus Heresy Dark Angels Relic Contemptor Dreadnought WIP

Greetings and welcome back.  This week I'm sharing the progress I've made so far on my DreadTober 2022 project.  I started off priming the new arms and then spraying GW Chaos black over the body.  Then I decided to break with tradition and start with the arms this time around.  It seems I'm always scrambling to get the arms done at the end. Not this time...

The most work went into the Conversion Beamer.  I needed to paint the coils and heat sinks/shields (?!) so I could complete final assembly with everything painted up.  Here's how things ended. I painted it to match the scheme on the Predator turret I've been working on....no surprises there!

Some close in detail on the claw with plasmagun.  Lots to do here, but coming along nicely. Over all, a possibly slow start, but not bad for only a couple hours work by my standards.  All of the arms were sprayed dark silver (see painting recipe on the tabs above for details on my 30K Dark Angels) using an airbrush.  Then I put the black back on where necessary with a standard brush before getting to the other metal details.

Check back next week for another update.  I'm starting to plan how this Dreadnought will wear Dark Angels livery.  Black and white checkers? Red and black? You'll have to stop by again to see.

Best of luck to my fellow DreadTober peers.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

  1. The Conversion Beamer is such a cool looking weapon. I really like your approach with the different metals!

    1. Thank you for the comment. It's a relatively ancient weapon in the lore, so I felt it needed to look different somehow - and the mixed metals give it a bit of mystery...like walking into an alchemist's lab and seeing all sorts of odd instruments. Anyway, not much source material out there for what one looks like so I took some artistic freedom here. :)

  2. That looks great so far. Love the detailing on the Martian Death Ray...erm...Conversion Beamer.
There's a lot of love for Dark Angels at the moment, so I'm looking forward to seeing which way you go with the detailing on the body.
