Legio Ignatum Reaver Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - Part 1

The first Reaver Battle Titan for my growing Legio Ignatum force is on the painting table. I skipped a post earlier this week as I really had nothing to show but the final assembly and magnetization of the Titan.  Once assembly was complete and the glue well dried, I got to work with the air brush.

I was eager to start the reds and set to it.  In hindsight, I probably should have held off and done the ScaleColor Black Metal first.  I'm now contemplating a heavy dry brush application of the black metal as a twist to my usual method.  I'd prefer to not mask all the red, and over spray is a thing. Much worse to over spray the red panels with black metal than the skeleton with red.

This titan will display a lot of red, with a black (fancy) carapace and striped shoulders, knee, and outer leg armor. I'm following the paint recipe on the Legio Ignatum tab above. So here, I've laid down a base coat of Vallejo Game Air Bloody Red.

Then the stripes were masked and painted in with Vallejo Game Air Gold Yellow.  This is a pretty thin paint, so multiple thin coats were applied. When I mask, I tape the whole piece at the angle I want the stripes to go, each strip of tape tight to the one text to it.  Then, I decide where the yellow stripes will go and remove every other strip of tape. The strips I remove can then go on the next piece I'm masking, so I don't waste too much tape.  This method yields even, uniform width lines every time with no measuring and marking.

With the tape removed, we have some bold Legio Ignatum stripes.  I'm starting to see hazard stripes in my sleep. I should probably move on to Iron Warriors at some point. 😂

With the base colors dry, it was time to paint trim. ScaleColor Dwarven Gold is my go-to paint for this currently. Next up, I'll base coat the metal skeleton and then paint in the trim on the feet and body. No need to paint trim there yet, until I see how much I mess up painting the skeleton. Next week I'll share more progress, hopefully with the armor panels attached!
