Legio Ignatum Reaver Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - Part 3

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

Greetings!

I have more progress to show on the Legio Ignatum Reaver Battle Titan today. The details are all painted in now, and lots more shading has been applied.  The body and legs are now permanently attached as well.

Let's walk around her a bit and have a look.  I think this will be the primary armament for this titan, but until I play some games I can't really say.  I envision this titan as a close-in scrapper, supported by a couple Warhound titans or a pack of knights.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

The second Reaver in the maniple will be more of a stand-off fire platform.  Since this force includes a Warbringer, they could afford a Reaver to get stuck in, I figured. This approach also sets this force up to fight differently than my existing Legio Tempestus force.

Decals go on next.  Then the base gets painted so I can mount the model permanently.  Currently, it is just standing on the base under it's own balance. I also need to highlight the armor trim and probably some other bits here and there.

I have some details left to do from the rear, as well.  Cogs on weapons should get some color and the hoses, etc.  Little stuff, and largely optional, but I can definitely take this paint job up a notch or two.

I have another painting session planned this week, so we'll see what I can accomplish.  I likely won't finish before next week, but it's getting VERY close.

Stay safe(ly distanced) out there.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

Legio Ignatum Reaver Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - Part 2

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

The third titan for Legio Ignatum is coming along this week.  The armor is all attached and I fixed up the trim where panels were attached to the sprue. The skeleton of the titan was shaded and highlighted with Vallejo Oily Steel and pistons were detailed with Vallejo Steel.  The pistons will be creatively shaded to lend a greasy streaky look, if I'm fortunate.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

I've been using a custom wash/shade whose general recipe/proportions I pulled from the 'net.  It's subtler than Nuln oil, and works very well on panels and places where I don't was coffee staining or pooling to spoil things.  I still prefer Nuln oils for shading metal (like guns and these skeletons), I think.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

Now with Volcano Canon and claw.  It's fun to have the options.  I plan this titan to be a bit of a scrapper, running with Melta Canon and either claw or chainfist. but as I've still never played the game, I may find the options useful.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

So that's where she stands currently.  Now I can get to work on all the details; especially the carapace which is a bit drab in all black currently.  The armor hasn't been shaded either, so that's gotta get done too.  Probably won't wrap this project this week, but it's close.  Definitely done next week.

Then we'll see.  Probably should take a break on Titans and move back to either the First Legion or 40K Primaris Dark Angels/Blades of Vengeance. Oh...wait...there's also plenty more Blackstone Fortress minis to paint...Times are tough, but the hobby rolls on. The "grey pile of shame" suddenly feels like a blessing.

Stay safe out there.

Cheers and Happy Painting!

Legio Ignatum Reaver Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - Part 1

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

The first Reaver Battle Titan for my growing Legio Ignatum force is on the painting table. I skipped a post earlier this week as I really had nothing to show but the final assembly and magnetization of the Titan.  Once assembly was complete and the glue well dried, I got to work with the air brush.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

I was eager to start the reds and set to it.  In hindsight, I probably should have held off and done the ScaleColor Black Metal first.  I'm now contemplating a heavy dry brush application of the black metal as a twist to my usual method.  I'd prefer to not mask all the red, and over spray is a thing. Much worse to over spray the red panels with black metal than the skeleton with red.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

This titan will display a lot of red, with a black (fancy) carapace and striped shoulders, knee, and outer leg armor. I'm following the paint recipe on the Legio Ignatum tab above. So here, I've laid down a base coat of Vallejo Game Air Bloody Red.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

Then the stripes were masked and painted in with Vallejo Game Air Gold Yellow.  This is a pretty thin paint, so multiple thin coats were applied. When I mask, I tape the whole piece at the angle I want the stripes to go, each strip of tape tight to the one text to it.  Then, I decide where the yellow stripes will go and remove every other strip of tape. The strips I remove can then go on the next piece I'm masking, so I don't waste too much tape.  This method yields even, uniform width lines every time with no measuring and marking.

Legio Ignatum Reaver for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

With the tape removed, we have some bold Legio Ignatum stripes.  I'm starting to see hazard stripes in my sleep. I should probably move on to Iron Warriors at some point. 😂

With the base colors dry, it was time to paint trim. ScaleColor Dwarven Gold is my go-to paint for this currently. Next up, I'll base coat the metal skeleton and then paint in the trim on the feet and body. No need to paint trim there yet, until I see how much I mess up painting the skeleton. Next week I'll share more progress, hopefully with the armor panels attached!

I hope you and yours are staying safe out there.

Cheers and Happy gaming!

On the Workbench [April] - Adeptus Titanicus Reaver Battle Titan

It's time to look at what's on the workbench this month. Having completed a Warlord and a Warbringer titan for Legio Ignatum in the last couple months, it was high time to add a Reaver.  I had laid aside a number of kits to build out the Legio Ignatum early this year before all the pandemic stuff hit.  Who knew it would prove to be good timing, for hobby work.  Lot's to do to pass the time while I'm socially distant.

This Reaver has been stomping down a shallow river bed, and is just now stepping up out of it as it lays down fire on the enemies of Mankind.  I am building this Reaver with a close combat arm.  Folks have been cutting the shoulder joints and magnetizing the whole arm, but I'm happy with just being able to swap out which h-t-h weapon it's holding.

The magnets in the saw and fist will block the wrist peg from inserting all the way, so I started by cutting that down a bit with a fine hobby saw.

I think drilled a hole in the wrist where I'll insert a couple small magnets.  The wrist peg was a size I didn't have the perfect magnet for, so I'll insert the magnets I have in the wrist peg instead of replacing it. Honestly, there are probably a few ways you could go here, so just do what works for you.

I assembled the fist with a magnet inside. A little 5-minute two-part epoxy keeps it nice and snug.

Here is the chain fist waiting for it's magnet assembly. You can see where it has been molded to accept a small magnet (whether or not they intended it).

The carapace weapon comes ready for magnets fortunately so this is much easier.  Just watch polarity when gluing in the magnets.  I've maintained the same polarity across all my titans so all weapons are interchangeable.

And that's what's on the workbench this month. I've enjoyed the Legio Ignatum paint scheme so much that I just can't wait to paint more titans.  I'm even getting psyched to go back to painting tiny House Taranis knights!

Stay safe out there.

Cheers and Happy gaming!

Legio Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - TO DONE

Greetings!  It is time to bring the Warbringer project to DONE. Weathering powders were added to the base, and I got everything sealed up with a good coat of flat lacquer. This was a fun project and I really like the Warbringer model.  When it was first released at 28mm scale it seemed just way over the top, even for the 40k universe.  The design has grown on me since I guess. Should I ever play the game, I hope it proves feisty on the table.

Here are a few shots of the completed model from the light box. For the first time ever, I had some frosting of the model after applying the spray lacquer.  It was only on the base, so I blame my own impatience, assuming I didn't wait long enough for the pigment fixer to dry after using the powders.  I'll point out, however, that Model Masters Lusterless Flat is no longer a thing, although Testors is shipping a flat coat spray lacquer using the same part number, but with a different label and no longer under the Model Masters name. Is it the same formula?  no idea...I got several cans by mistake while trying to acquire remaining stock of the old stuff off Amazon.  Buyer beware, don't trust the pictures in the Amazon ads.

No matter, though, it was an easy matter to cover the frosting with a new layer of weathering powders. As you can see from the pics, no sign of the white frosting on the base now, or anywhere else on the model. The flat coat seemed otherwise identical and did not effect the model at all otherwise.  I typically leave the bases to dry over night, so I'll continue that practice next time and try not to rush things.

She cuts a fierce profile...

I feel I should return to the back of this model some time.  Too much steel.  maybe some trim around the exhausts/vents or something...

It's a small thing, but perhaps I could have organized the stripes to be the same angle in profile.

"Don't step on the generator, my Princepts!"

With that, I'm going to give my self a big seal o' done. Stay safe out there.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

WIP: Legio Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - Part 3

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

More progress on the Nemesis Warbringer titan for Adeptus Titanicus.  The model is fully assembled now and I was able to get some work on the base before pinning the model down to it with 5min 2-part epoxy. The gold trim has been highlighted with Vallejo Old Gold, and Vallejo Silver.  The silver is applied just at the highest, brightest points and edges. Then came the decals.  I might have gone a bit overboard, but I enjoy decals very much.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Some kill markings for the volcano cannon and a small hex wasp head for the rear of the shoulder armor.  I've had great luck with these GW decals/transfers. They're pretty tough and slide of the paper easily and with a minimum of soaking, I find.  Of course, Micro  Sol and MicroSet are the star players when working with decals. I have a pair of bottle from the 90's that still work great.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

I got a little waspy on the laser blasters. Fire Wasps from all angles!  Well, except the rear, and one should never show the rear of their titan to the enemy!

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

I had a request for a picture with something else in it for scale.  Here is a 40K Primaris Dark Angels marine standing at the foot of the Warbringer. Even at 8mm they are big machines! Glory to the Omnissiah for his great gifts. I hope this series of posts inspires you to get your own titans painted for the battlefield.

That's it for this week.  The titan's base will get some weathering powders next to accentuate the martian dust and to match the rest of my titans.  Then a last pass at cleaning up any mistakes and a bit more highlighting here and there where the model needs it most. I expect a final post next week will wrap up this project and clear the way for something new.  maybe Heresy era Dark Angels next?  I need to get my force ready for a parade review before their Primarch, once he finally gets released.

Stay safe out there.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

WIP: Legio Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - Part 2

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

The little buddy walks! This week I have used my hobby time to paint all of the gold trim and shade the panels and skeleton of the titan.  I also cleaned up over spray on the legs, body and weapons from painting the panels that were attached. The Warbringer is a big boy, no doubt, but...so...many...armor...panels...

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Assembly of the leg armor was a bit fiddly around the feet, if I must say.  I'm not sure if I assembled something about the legs wrong, or it's just odd.  But the four lower leg pistons with attached armor didn't fit to the model as I had expected.  They did go on, though, and may actually be correct.  But they just didn't attach as I expected.  The ball sockets in the feet were fine, but the upper piston parts just connected odd, to me. Still, very formidable and stompy once completed.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

The upper carapace came out exactly as I had hoped.  The stripes are reasonably balanced and not all at wonky angles to each other. I decided this titan would alternate black and red on the knees and shields as part of its livery.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Here's a shot from lower down so the chest armor is more clear. I'm really getting into the Legio Ignatum livery in general.  I like the contrast of the bright yellow with the darker reds and black. It makes a nice warm palette against the cool blue/black/white of the Legio Tempestus.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Walking around the titan now to check out all the armor detail.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

I like the gold framed red doors at the back. Nice spot of color.  I'll be working on the details next, so things won't be so generally silver/grey in the end.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Left side...much like the right side. :)  I'f I'm getting too picture heavy with these posts, just toss me a comment.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Now with all the weapons attached. I'm still working on details on the head and around where the head attaches to the body, so it's off for now. So many gunz!

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

A little side angle so you can appreciate the Quake Cannon in more detail.  This is a warlord weapon strapped to this little guy's back.  Why it doesn't flip him over each time it shoots, I'll never know.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Let's come around a bit more and get an even better shot.  BOOM. I would love to stand over one of these at 28mm.  I envy the Titan Club owners out there. Just a fantastic model, esp. at this scale with so many small details.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

And a last parting shot.  She's not fully assembled yet to make painting and around everything more easy.  I'm not magnetizing my titans at the waist, but it can be easily done.  This beauty will be glued in position once I'm done with the details.

I can't wait to get decals on this model.  The Fire Wasps are going to be stomping around in style.

Stay safe out there, and hobby on.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

WIP: Legio Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Greetings!

I made progress on the Warbringer, now that my MonsterMarch4 pledge is complete.  I masked and airbrushed the panels requiring hazard stripes. Then I started making some progress painting on the gold trim. No mistakes on the stripes this time around, so hopefully no panel repainting in the future.

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

The head is coming along.  More details and shading are necessary before it can be attached to the body. And speaking of the body...

Legion Ignatum Warbringer Battle Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - WIP

Here's more of the gold trim on the feet and upper torso.  I have a whole sprue with the rest of the armor to paint trim on, then shade before I look at any assembly.  There is a decent amount of over spray and then shading and highlighting of the skeleton left to do before I can attach the armor as well. But still, progress. And of course the weapons which I've put aside for now while I focus on the body and armor panels.

I hope you and your families are staying safe and finding means to wait out the pandemic. I feel blessed to have a hobby room full of toy soldiers to pass the time with and decompress when I can get the time.

Until next week.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!
