On the Workbench [June] - Heresy Era Dark Angels Rhino Transport

Heresy Era Dark Angels Rhino WIP

I found a couple Heresy draft posts that hadn't been published so enjoy the filler while I'm away...

The first of the First Legion transports is assembled and almost ready for paint. The plow needed some heat treatment to straighten it out before it could be attached.  Once straightened it was pinned to the hull and attached with 2-part epoxy.  While poking around in the bits pile I realized I had a handful of Forge World tarantulas with radar dishes that is now OOP.  The dish is of a standard size compatible with the razorback turret, and likely the same parts that make up the Damocles Command Rhino. And so it was that the humble Rhino became an optional Command Rhino over night. Bonus!

Much like the Rhino/Razorback combo tanks I use for my 40K Dark Angels, I'll paint up the Rhino doors, and the Damocles add-on so this tank can do double duty, depending on the needs of the force from one game to another.  I don't know that the First Legion needs a command Rhino, but why pass on the option if I have the parts, right?

Three more rhinos wait in boxes to join the motor pool and help transport my squads across the table top. More on those in the future along with more painting inspiration as I continue filling out my First Legion army.

WIP - Warmaster Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - part 4

Legio Ignatum Warmaster Titan for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

Greetings and welcome back.  Here is where Superbia Martis stands today.  I wasn't able to get as much progress done as I had hoped, but this is still a fine engine so far.  Primarily, I had hoped to have the transfers on this week.  However preparations for our family vacation took precedence and I really don't want to rush this project, in any case.

I got the plasma coils painted on the weapon arms and that allowed me to glue on the armor panels.  Here, I realized that I meant to have the angle of the black/yellow stripes match the leg armor. But it's not a thing that needs to be, so I'm not stripping and repainting just for that.

Lots of detail painting left to do here at the back to add some visual interest.  I won't leave it all one color metallic.  I'll probably paint the door at the top red or black too to draw a little attention there.

This titan will have to sit on the painting table for a couple weeks now while I head out with my family on vacation.  I'll be back in July with more progress and then it's back to 28mm and the Horus Heresy!  So many cool things to paint this summer.

So a bit of a break here for 262Krieg, but no worries.  We'll be back and painting like mad before you know it. Best wishes for your summer plans.

WIP - Warmaster Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - part 3

Legio Ignatum Warmaster Titan for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

Superbia Martis walks! This week I worked on attaching all the armor panels that I have been painting separately on sprue.  Now I can finally see the overall color heraldry of the titan; and I'm very pleased with how it came out.  Next up, I'll apply transfers to complete the heraldry. Then I'll seal everything and continue on with the painting.

It all started with the leg armor.  There are so many separate panels here. From the front we have mostly the red of Mars.  Black shows on the sides of the legs and the groin armor (not shown here) with yellow strips on the outside leg panels. The lore leans towards honeycomb stripes these days, but I started my collection with stripes based on older painted titans and GW artwork, so I'm sticking with it now.

Next I worked on the torso armor, and attached the head.  I had completed enough painting that I will still be able to reach what I need to for final details now that the head is attached. The arm weapons really stand out here as NOT being painted...

Lastly, I attached the shoulder armor.  I'm leaving off the weapon armor until I finish painting the weapons.  Some details will be beneath the armor so I want to get those painted before I get them covered up.  Looking forward to a nice large Legio Ignatum symbol on that plain bear shoulder plate.

And here she stands from the rear.  Overall the color scheme turned out exactly as envisioned and I managed to NOT f-up any of the panels here (unlike the recent Warhounds...).  There is still a decent amount of painting left to do, but it is really fun to have the armor on now.  This mini-titan project is finally coming together.  There are just so many days of painting things on sprue, that it feels like these projects drag on forever.  Now, progress will appear to pick up as the final details are painted in, Legio transfers are added and I finally get to work on that base!

I'm soon to take a break for a two week family summer vacation, so I really need to dig in and get this fella finished.  When I get back from vaca, it's probably going to be all Heresy all the time for a couple months.

Best of luck with your own hobby projects.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

WIP - Warmaster Titan for Adeptus Titanicus - part 2

Legio Ignatum Warmaster Titan for Adeptus Titanicus WIP

Greetings and welcome back. As I've been cobbling away on this Warmaster titan for Legio Ignatum, I'm in that place where I don't have all that much to show for it.  The picture above shows that I have the main assembly done and some armor painted.  After this, I paint all the armor plates and that is where things really aren't that interesting...

Here is the main armor sprue with all the parts painted.  I first use an airbrush to lay the colors down, with masking to get the stripes.  Then I use a brush to paint all the gold trim...oh the many, many parts with trim...

Once the base colors are laid down, the parts are sprayed with gloss varnish and then shaded with a thinned wash of GW Agrax Earthshade.  The varnish helps prevent the usual staining and gets the thinned wash to the recesses and off the flat surfaces.  This worked well with the Warhounds I completed recently, so I used the same method here. For the prior titans painted without gloss varnish, there was a lot of rework to clean up the panels after shading - that is not necessary here.

Here are the rest of the armor panels and the head painted to the same level.

And the upper armor and void shield generators on the carapace shaded to match.

And let's not forget the painted toenails. That's where I'm at today.  The next stage will be clipping the parts and touching up the paint.  Then all the parts will be attached and the torso will be glued to the legs.  At that point, I'll be able to share the first look at what this Warmaster will look like assembled.  Then I'm on to transfers and the weapons and this beast will be close to done.

Check back next week to see a much more interesting view of the marvelously detailed titan. It's a beauty and will make a great center piece for my Legio Ignatum force.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!
