Dark Angels Indomitus Deathwing Ancient - TO DONE

Dark Angels Indomitus Deathwing Ancient

Greetings and Happy New Year!  For my first post in 2021, I have the Indomitus Ancient painted in Dark Angels Deathwing colors.  This one gets the big seal of DONE for the 2020/21 hobby season, leaving three more space marine characters from the set to paint.

The Indomitus models have some great details.  I really could have kept on painting this guy, but at some point it's just time to put a model down and move on.  For instance, my eye keeps coming back to the purity seals where I neglected to paint on any sort of text.  This is the freehand painter's version of not drilling out the gun barrels for me.  And I'll probably have to come back and address that at some point.  But for now, enough is enough.

Below are a few more shots in the light box.

Stay safe out there.

Cheers and Happy Gaming!

And the non-filtered originals...my iPhone SE goes way into the yellow when looking at Deathwing models, despite a gray background and white LEDs...

  1. DAMn! I want one. Lovely paint scheme. The tech priests forgot to inscribe the purity seals on my latest batch too :(

    1. Thanks! I like to think the ink fades or runs in the harsh conditions found on the battlefields of the 41st millennium...

    2. Not when that ink is made with the blood of traitors ;-)
Really great looking model, the blending on his green robes is nicely done. When I bought my Indomitus models on the secondary market I took a pass on this guy because I thought he didn't look sufficiently 1st Legion. Your awesome paint job shows that chapter flavor can come from just the painting and still fit in with models that have details specifically sculpted for a particular chapter.

    3. Fair point on the ink. Ha! I know what you mean about the "look" of the Indomitus models. I'd have preferred using replacement shoulder pads, etc. with the embossed Chapter markings. But I saw enough examples of these painted in various chapter colors that I became convinced myself. While this is my execution, certainly, I can't take credit for the color choices. I mostly took from the examples of others to piece together my model.

    1. Thank you, the models are growing on me. Lots of sharp detail and the push fit actually helps here with sub assemblies and what-not. If I was planning a larger collection I'd be concerned about the static poses and challenges converting, et.. As it is, these make a perfect small collection for my plans.

  3. Great work! The bone of the Deathwing armour always looks nice against the green robes. A great addition to the force.

    1. Thank you! It's ridiculous to think these Indomitus models are the first completed Deathwing in my collection...I have ALOT of Deathwing terminators...some partially painted or primed.

    2. Same with me, I've had units in a state of painting for many years now. It's only now that Terminators are worth using that I've dug them out to finish them off (plus running out of stuff to paint helps).
